Description
A detail of the old Tappan Zee Bridge in New York State. The bridge has been replaced by the Mario Cuomo Bridge in 2017. I took a series of photos, driving over it, while the new bridge was being built, before it was completed. The structure reminds me of the abstract paintings of Franz Kline, and in fact one of his most famous paintings is entitled 'High Street' so he was thinking of thoroughfares while he painted what became a series of breakthrough paintings, making him a major figure in the abstract expressionist movement of the early 1950's. (A black and white version is also in my gallery).
